Legal Typist Services

Power of Attorney.  A document in which you appoint and give someone else the legal authority to act on your behalf on matters that you specify, in order to manage your legal and financial affairs.  The power given can be very broad to allow complete control over all your finances and property, or it can be limited to a specific task.  A Power of Attorney is crucial to have when planning for future incapacity or extended absences from home.  A Power of Attorney cannot be used to designate someone to make medical decisions for you in the event that you are unable.  You must use a Medical Power of Attorney for this.

Power of Attorney for the Care of Children (for Single Parent/One Custodial Parent) –This document allows a single parent (called the “Principal” or “Grantor”) of one or more children, who has full/sole legal custody of the child/children to appoint another person to act as his or her Attorney-in-Fact to care for the child/children on a temporary basis (i.e. for a limited time).  This document allows the Attorney-in-Fact to make decisions for the children in place of the parent, including health care, education and welfare decisions.

Child Medical Consent.  Used when parents or guardians of a child (or children) want to authorize another person (or people) to consent to medical treatment for the child(ren).  It is ideal for use when a child is being cared for by a babysitter, grandparents, other relatives, or other temporary guardians.  With this authorization, the caregiver will be able to access medical care without delay, especially in emergency situations.

Living WillWho decides your fate when you become unable to make your own decisions about remaining on life support?  Your spouse?  Your parents?  The courts?  The simplest way to ensure your wishes are carried out by those you trust is to prepare your own Living Will.  A Living Will is a health care proxy which allows you to designate someone to speak for you when you cannot, in order to direct the decisions and medical care that you will receive.  The health care instruction contains your wishes on the medical care you will receive when you are suffering from various conditions and are not able to communicate.

Last Will and Testament.  Gives you the ability to protect your loved ones and to decide what happens to your estate and children after your death - not the government.  The Last Will and Testament takes into consideration if you are married, if you have children, if your children are minors, if you want to make specific gifts, and if you want to cover the situation when your immediate family all dies.
